Deal, The Garden of Rest

In the middle of Deal High Street, behind St George's Church is The Garden of Rest, formally the Churchyard of the Church.

At some time in the past all the gravestones were lifted and placed round the edges of the garden, leaving a beautiful tree filled space.

At any time of the year it is beautiful, very peaceful, and a great place for dog walkers.

Lovely and shady on a hot day.

Lots of people use this space to walk through, sit for a while, have their lunch, it  really is beautiful :)

And of course the wild life is amazing :)

Some locals put out food for the squirrels and birds, I love squirrels so am always pleased to see them.

The  grave marker seen on the right hand side of the photo marks the last resting place of Captain Edward Parker, friend and protege of Lord Nelson. He died of wounds sustained in action off Boulogne in September 1801, aged 23. Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton attended his funeral, and Lord Nelson paid for the funeral and donated the memorial.

Deal through the year

I can't believe how few blogs I have done this year, no excuses as I have been taking photos all year! I have decided to do a few blogs with photos taken over the last year. Starting then with a blog about Deal, where I live :) I have to start with The Pier, photo taken on a winter day, but the sea was so calm and lovely.

The two shops in the photos above and below are now closed, it is such a shame as they have been part of the High Street for many years. They are due to be demolished to make way for flats!

Loved this shop, so sad to see it going :(
