This March my husband and I were lucky enough to attend the 75th Anniversary of the shooting down of Lancaster ME449 on 13th March 1945, which was shot down in Denmark. Sadly the two gunners died in the crash, the other five crew members (including my Father) bailed out of the plane and made their various ways back to the UK with help from the Danish Underground, and the courageous Danish people.
The two young men who died are buried in a beautiful peaceful spot near the town of Tarm. There was a lovely ceremony at the graveside this year and the opportunity for all the relatives of the crew to lay wreaths in memory of the two men who died.
The site is beautifully looked after by the Church and people of Tarm.
A plaque erected at the site of the graves, my Dad was the Flight Engineer.
So peaceful in the evening sun.
These two courageous young men along with many thousands of others gave their lives for our freedom,
They Will Never Be Forgotten.
