Walmer used to be a village, but now Deal and Walmer have merged.
This photo is looking North towards Deal, showing some of the boats on the beach, the building in the background is The Queens Flats, which replaced The Queens Hotel that used to be on the site. The Queens Hotel was formerly a Railway Hotel, which sadly caught fire before being demolished.
Walmer Green, the Lifeboat Station can be seen on the left, the Bandstand memorial to the Musicians who lost their lives by an IRA bomb which exploded in their barracks on 22nd September 1989, can be seen on the green.
Marke Wood, this lovely park was left to the children of Walmer by Mrs. Marke Wood who lived in Walmer Place (now demolished and replaced with flats)
On to the promenade, which stretches from Sandown Castle in the North, to Kingsdown in the South. Although the promenade finishes in both directions at these locations, there is further path to the North alongside the Royal St George's Golf course leading to Sandwich Bay, and a path over the cliffs to the South leading to St Margaret's Bay.
A wonderful promenade with not one road to cross!
