Every two years a local quilting club mount a display in a church hall in the town. Originally the exhibition was held in St George’s Church and it was wonderful to see the quilts suspended from the balconies. For some reason the quilts are now shown in the church hall, it is always a wonderful display, but sadly you can’t stand back from the quilts quite so well.
My friend and I spent a lovely hour or so drooling over some of the quilts, with me taking lots of photos of course.
After our hard work drooling over the quilts we decided it was too early to go home so we treated ourselves to a big ice cream, and ate it sitting in a shelter on the pier. Lovely way to spend a Sunday morning, and who knows the quilt exhibition might just be the inspiration I need to finish the quilt I started about 30 years ago….
I once caught an exhibition by our local quilters in Dumfries. Much to my surprise they're great to look at. Your local look to be equally talented. It's amazing, some of the pieces of art quietly being produced around the county by ordinary folk (not this ordinary folk - I can just about manage a button)
ReplyDeleteThis group exhibits every two years, I really love to go and see the amazing quilts they make. Yes it is amazing what talent there is in this country, thank goodness :)
DeleteAll I can say is "WOW" - those quilts are stunning. I would love to be so talented. And your photos really show the colours well too. Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them :)
DeleteBeautiful :o) The amount of work, patience & skill is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing, but so is your plant pot tea cosy :D Loved your lemon drizzle cake today, thank you :D x
DeleteWhat a Beautiful collection Val, oh the work that has been put into these. 30 YEARS wow!
ReplyDeleteHugs Sheila x
I will finish my quilt Sheila, my husband said when I started it that we would be lucky to have it by the time we retire, if they hadn't changed the retirement age I think he would have been right!! I am working on putting mine together now, but it is slow going. I will post photos when it is done, but don't hold your breath!! x
DeleteWell done Val and good Luck look forward to seeing the finished Quilt xx
DeleteWell if these doesn't inspire you to finish your quilt I don't know what will. These are just drooling beautiful. I made only one quilt in my life 30 years ago from old denim jeans and used an old sleeping bag for the batting and back it with an old bedspread. It was just patchwork and not fancy, but I have still have it. The work that goes into these creations you have shared are so beautiful and what I call eye candy. Well this morning the rain is coming down after a summer with little rain. No flowers need watering, we got all our roofs fixed, just have to finish our deck. Just when I think I may have a break, the garden is ready for harvesting. I dug 2 rows of beautiful yukon gold potatoes yesterday. Now if I can just focus myself to getting a blog out. I find when I have time I do more visiting of blogs like this morning. I am pass my 1 month mark on my last blogs. But I am into so many different things now, its hard to focus in one place. Anyway thanks for stopping by each new visit reminds me I really need to get a blog out. Happy week to you...
ReplyDeleteHi Carrie, thanks for popping by, glad you like the quilts. Like you I seem to be very busy, I try hard to get the blogs up and visit other blogs, but sometimes it just doesn't happen... enjoy your old quilt, I bet if you had bought an ordinary quilt 30 years ago it would not still be going now! Enjoy the Autumn :)
DeleteOoh, they are beautiful, thank you Val.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob :)
DeleteThese are fantastic Poppy, I wanted to buy a hand made quilt but I'm afraid it was a bit too expensive for me, I do't think I'd have the time left to start one of my own.
ReplyDeleteHand made quilts are really expensive Arlene, I am considering making a machine made one when the current one is finished. If I don't make two the kids will only argue .... and the hand stitched one has lots of my daughters dress material in it so I think she ought to have that one really!
