Rye, East Sussex

A few weeks ago my daughter came down to stay with us for a few days, and I had a few days off work. We decided to meet up with my sister in law in Rye, and be ‘Ladies what Lunch’. We used to do this once a year, but this is the first time for a few years.

Breakfast, or Elevenses!!

We tend to follow a pattern of sorts, we meet in the Car Park and make our way to a lovely restaurant called Simon The Pieman, where we have our Elevenses. Elevenses for us on these days mean a Cream Tea!!! Yummy way to start our visit!

The workings of the clock from inside the Tower

Fantastic being up there among the bells, luckily they did not chime while we were up there!

Alice on her way up to the roof.

After we had eaten every scrap of our Cream Tea, or, in my daughters case a Chocolate Eclair, we walked the few steps up towards the Church,  opposite of which is a lovely gift shop just waiting for us to spend some of our pennies, which we did Smile When we came out of there I then saw a notice saying the Church Tower was open. I think some of you will know that is there is any opportunity of getting on top of a building I will be the first one there!! My daughter was also up for the challenge, as was my Sister in Law, but she had been a little unwell earlier in the week and decided climbing up to the roof was not a good idea for her this time.

Rye from the Church Tower, a fantastic view all around.

Me on the roof.

The River Rother running down to Rye Harbour in the distance. The tower is The Ypres Tower, which I haven’t been into – yet!

I think I have been in the Tower before, but this time we were allowed to climb up and get close to the bells, and up onto the roof, where my daughter and I had the most amazing views over the town and the countryside all around.

Prawns for me for lunch…

…..sitting by the log fire…

….and watched over by the beautiful Cherubs above the fireplace. Fantastic Open-mouthed smile

Alice pretending to be posh, drinking her Irish coffee Smile

Lots of photos later we made our way back down into the Church, and from there we headed off to The Mermaid Inn for lunch and a sit by their wonderful log fire. After a lovely leisurely lunch we wandered round the shops, rescued a lost blue rabbit for a little boy and came home. We all had a really lovely day, but then we always have a great day in Rye Smile

The beautiful Mermaid Inn, I love looking at the paintings on the walls.

The writing underneath says: Henry Vlll at the beheading of Anne Boleyn 1536

Just beautiful Open-mouthed smile
